Engineering firm approved to oversee Coal Valley development

COAL VALLEY -- Trustees on Wednesday approved having Rock Island engineering company Missman Inc. oversee construction on the Oak Knoll Twin Estates housing development.
The cost of their work, $35,000, will be paid by developer Brian Bealer.The final plat for the 12-acre development off East 19th Avenue, between East 6th and East 7th streets, was approved June 19 by the board.
The development includes 17 duplex townhouse units, for a total of 34 townhouses, and one single-family home, said village administrator Alan Wilson.A lift station related to the development already has been completed, Mr. Wilson said, with electricity and telephone service yet to be installed.
The development broke ground in May 2012 with completion projected in 2014.
Also on Wednesday, trustee Richard Stone asked for bills of more than $500 to be explained before board approval was sought. He cited the recent purchase of a fire safe for more than $1,000, saying there was nothing specific in the budget listing the category of office supplies.
Trustees on Wednesday also:
-- Approveddrafting a lease agreement with Coal Valley Township for use of the village's maintenance garage for $400 per month. The draft includes an agreement to equally split the purchase of a backhoe between the village and township equally.
-- Tabled a vote on the 1st Street sidewalk project, from 2nd Avenue to U.S. 6. Coal Valley received a $220,000 grant for the project during the last fiscal year.
