BHC employees join in United Way Day of Caring Black Hawk College employees read to preschoolers, painted porches and spread wood chips Aug. 21 as part of the United Way of the Quad Cities Area Day of Caring. Five employees spent the morning spreading wood chips on playground at Hand-in-Hand programs for children with disabilities in Bettendorf. BHC closed Sept. 2 for Labor Day

All Black Hawk College facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day. The college will reopen, and classes will resume Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Looking for a job or need to enhance your computer skills? Black Hawk College is offering several introductory computer classes this fall.

Word Level 1: Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. $90
Buying on eBay: Tuesdays, Sept. 10-17, from 5:45-7:15 p.m. $29
Windows 8: Wednesdays, Sept. 11 to Oct. 9, from 5:45-7:15 p.m. $60
Intro to Excel 2010: Wednesdays, Sept. 11 to Oct. 9, from 7:15-8:45 p.m. $60

Learn how to prepare bid for government service contracts Sept. 10

Businesses can increase their opportunities to sell to the federal government by attending "How to Put a Successful Service Bid Package Together" on Sept. 10 at Black Hawk College.

The workshop will cover the correct methods of placing a bid proposal for government contracting including going through a bid package page-by-page.

The workshop will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Illinois Procurement Technical Assistance Center at Black Hawk College, 4703 16th St., Moline. Cost is $69.

Enhance management skills with BHC class

Managers can enhance their skills with the Black Hawk College class, Foundations of Management - Management Skills I, beginning Sept. 10.

The course will cover planning, organizing, leading, controlling, managing diversity, managing globally, ethics and more. The class also can be used as prep for the Certified Manager (CM) examination.

Classes will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 10 to Oct. 22, at the college's Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $500.

BHC class helps seniors use digital camera

Seniors can learn the basic camera functions and how to take better pictures in the Black Hawk College class, Learn to Use Your Digital Camera for Seniors.

The class will be from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 11-25, at the college's Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $36.
