1888 — 125 years ago: Following Tuesday's order to have all dogs muzzled, police have killed 28 unmuzzled dogs in the city.
1913 — 100 years ago: A parade was the feature of Labor Day in Rock Island.
1938 — 75 years ago: About a hundred prizes will be given away at the Sept. 15 downtown Rock Island unveiling of windows to reveal the most up-to-date offerings in fall merchandise.
1963 — 50 years ago: John Anders, one of Moline's most outstanding athletes in recent years and one of a long line of star athletes from the Anders family died in Albuquerque, N.M., last night after participating in the University of New Mexico's first football practice.
