"We are excited about having the steam engine back this year," said Brian DeJohn, executive director of the chamber. "We have had the steam engine in Geneseo before for the 'Trains, Planes & Automobiles,' festivities, but it was not here last year. We hope area residents will be a part of history and take advantage of the unique opportunity to ride the train."
The first event in the three-day celebration is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gen-Airpark Airport east of Geneseo, off U.S. 6, when local pilots host the National Stearman Fly-In. The public is invited to see the World War II aircraft.
The fall event also features "Cruise the Canal" tours of the Hennepin Canal Friday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
"We started the tours four years ago and they continue to be such a big hit, we are including them again this year," Mr. DeJohn said.
The 90-minute tours depart from Lock 24 north of Geneseo and continue west.Parking is available where the tours begin. Those planning to take the tour should take bug spray and sunscreen. Cost is $15 per person and includes a bottle of water.
The Maple City Cruisers will host a car show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. More than 300 classic cars are expected to line the downtown streets. A tribute to the military will be part of the day, with awards presented to show winners.
Throughout the day, music will be provided by 3D Sound Company, Dixon.
