SHERRARD -- The school board and Sherrard Education Association have confirmed that a tentative agreement has been reached that could lead to a finalized contract.

The district has been without a contract since a three-year contract expired last fall. The union represents about 190 employees, including teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, mechanics, custodians and cooks.

Union spokesman Todd Volkert said the two sides met early Sunday afternoon and talked until nearly midnight.

"It was a good 10 hours," said Mr. Volkert, who is a district teacher and coach.

The union membership is expected to vote on the proposed contract on Sunday, he said.

School board president Leslie Anderson said the school board will wait to see what the union does, then schedule a special meeting for its own vote.

Neither Mr. Volkert nor Ms.Anderson would discuss details of the potential contract.
