The Moline boys’ basketball team is finally a unanimous No. 1 in the Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Polls.

However, the Moline girls’ slipped from that lofty status ever so slightly, despite winning their lone game last week by double figures.

The Maroons (20-4), the unanimous No. 1 girls team since this season’s first poll on Dec. 1, lost one of the 14 first-place ballots cast to Annawan.

The No. 2 Braves (20-2) won the Lincoln Trail Conference tournament over the weekend by not only beating Princeville — to avenge one of its two losses this season — but won a much-anticipated championship battle of state-ranked teams with No. 7 Biggsville West Central (17-4).

On the boys’ side, Moline (15-2) has been No. 1 since just before Christmas in balloting by the sports staffs at WQAD-TV 8, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus. However, the Maroons never received all 14 first-place votes until today’s fifth installment of the local rankings.

Both the Moline boys’ and girls’ basketball teams remained No. 1 in this week’s Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Polls.

And of last week’s combined 20 Top 10 teams, 11 retained their spots in the latest vote by the sports staffs at WQAD-TV 8, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus.

But if the local rankings appear frozen in time today, that’s because they are still thawing out with the area sports scene, with a record cold snap delaying or canceling much of last week’s schedule.

Among the highly anticipated games claimed by the weather, the biggest was a showdown between No. 3 Annawan (17-2) and No. 6 Biggsville West Central (15-3) for Lincoln Trail Conference girls’ supremacy.

An improbable title run at the prestigious Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament.

A surprising 3-0 lead in the Western Big 6 Conference.

Three wins in the last two weeks over state-ranked squads boasting major-college recruits.

Yet, even after Saturday’s 25-point destruction of Sterling and Illinois signee Joseph Bertrand, there still remain doubters over the 13-1 start fashioned by the Moline boys’ basketball team.

The Maroons and their schools’ girls’ counterparts retained their respective top spots in today’s Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Poll.

However, in the presentation by WQAD-TV 8, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, the Moline boys were prevented from unanimous approval by one balloter.
