The Top 6 boys’ teams remained the same this week in the Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Poll.
However, former No. 1 Moline continued to lose ground to top-ranked Bettendorf, with the Maroons falling on the road for a second straight Saturday, albeit at fellow state-rated Lincoln, this past weekend.
Bettendorf (18-3) again earned 13 of the 14 first-place votes, and 137 of a possible 140 voting points, in the first boys-only local poll of the season. The final girls’ rankings were released last week, as the final local girls’ teams entered postseason action.
Bettendorf’s postseason-bound Mississippi Athletic Conference champions have been No. 1 for the last three weeks.
In this week’s balloting by the sports staffs at WQAD-TV, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, Moline (19-5) received the other first-place nod — thanks to a head-to-head win over Bettendorf just before Christmas.
Still, the already-crowned Western Big 6 Conference champs saw their voting totals drop from 121 points to 113.5.

Losses by their biggest challengers, coupled with impressive wins of their own, allowed the Bettendorf boys’ and Moline girls’ to tighten their grip on their respective No. 1 rankings in this week’s Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Polls.
Both received 13 of the 14 first-place votes cast by the sports staffs at WQAD-TV, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus.
In today’s eighth installment of this season’s local rankings, the only other first-place nods went to the No. 2 Moline boys (18-4) and No. 3 Sterling Newman girls (25-1).

The debate over who’s No. 1 in the Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Polls has heated up heading into the final month of the season.
Losses over the weekend by both of last week’s top-ranked teams, the Moline boys and girls, opened the door to their respective challengers in the joint effort by WQAD-TV, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus.
In today’s seventh installment of this season’s local rankings, Bettendorf (14-3) replaced the Moline boys (17-3) by a whisker, while the Moline girls (23-5) retained their season-long top spot, but continued to lose ground to No. 2 Annawan (26-2).

A combined record of 36-6 by last week’s Top 10s kept this week’s Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Polls pretty much status quo.
In balloting by the sports staffs at WQAD-TV, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, 13 of last week’s 20 Top 10-ranked teams held their lofty positions.
