And for Cubs fans everywhere, this year has been every bit as unreal as the 100 years prior — 100 years of championship vacancy.

But with a World Series title at least an option as the Cubs begin playoff contention against the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight at 5:30, millions of fans are declaring this to be “the year,” while millions of others are choosing to wait in trepidation before celebrating what might be.
