Kerry Wood is the last of what many Cubs fans typically refer to as a “true Cub,” for his birth and longevity with the team, initial success and overall quiet charm to go along with a philanthropic heart.

He is a Chicago icon and a Cubs leader in the clubhouse.

But with Thursday’s trade — the Cubs acquiring Florida Marlins reliever Kevin Gregg for Minor League pitcher Jose Ceda — the days of Kerry Wood in a Cubs uniform are over. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry has indicated he will not be re-signed.
