B. B. KING CONCERT TO BENEFIT GENESIS DIABETES CARE CENTER
Genesis Health and River Music Experience are proud to present a grand concert event to benefit Genesis Diabetes Care Center, featuring the "King of the Blues" himself - the legendary B. B. King. This very special benefit concert will be held in the Great Hall at the RiverCenter, 136 E. 3rd St., Davenport. Doors open at 6:00 pm, and the concert begins at 7:00 pm. I am personally very honored that the folks at Genesis have invited the Ellis Kell Band to open this concert to benefit their diabetes education program. The concert tops off Genesis Diabetes Awareness Week - Dec. 11-16 - a week-long effort from Genesis to educate Quad Citians about the growing incidence of diabetes.
B. B. King, recently celebrated his 80th birthday, along with a new release of blues duets called “80.” A diabetic for the last decade, he is also widely recognized as a spokesperson for diabetes, and he takes his personal health very seriously. “I don’t eat sweets, no sugar,” he says. “I don’t smoke...I’m also a vegetarian, so I don’t have any real bad problems...But I’m getting older now, so I’m cutting back a bit.” (Mr. King and I share more than just the blues...)
As per the official Genesis release, "the Genesis Diabetes Care Center offers an individualized self-management program encompassing the critical areas of diet, medication, exercise, motivation and emotional support. With the help of a multidisciplinary team of professionals, people with diabetes and their support persons learn about the disease, how it affects their body and how they can better manage day-to-day situations, as well as long-term effects. For more information about the Genesis Diabetes Care Center, please call 563-421-1061 in Davenport, or 309-792-4389 in Silvis."
