1860 -- 150 years ago: Woltman's beer house and refreshment saloon is winning golden opinions from everyone.

1885 -- 125 years ago: Makers of light barrels are on a strike in the Tri-cities for higher wages and as a consequence the breweries are running on a lighter schedule.

1910 -- 100 years ago: The ninth annual convention of the knights of Joseph, a Jewish order, has been awarded to Columbus, Ohio. The eighth convention closed yesterday in Rock Island.

1935 -- 75 years ago: Harold Naumann, 20, of Moline, a nervy, precise racing pilot, held the highest prize offered by the 1935 national air races today -- the Thompson trophy.

1960 -- 50 years ago: Swimming pools recorded their busiest days of the summer, power line transformers blew fuses as a result of overloads caused by air conditioning and some schools were dismissed early as the Quad-Cities experienced their hottest day of the summer yesterday. The temperature reached a sweltering 96 degrees. And to make the heat good and sticky, the humidity reading at the time of yesterday's 97-degree measurement was 45 percent.

1985 -- 25 years ago:Labor Day parades in East Moline and Rock Island turned a cloudy day into a lot of fun for thousands of area residents.
