Bettendorf Middle School eighth-grader Dominic Rivera II, will attend the National Young Leaders State Conference in Kansas in March.
Nominated by his school guidance counselors, the 13-year-old will join other outstanding students from across the nation to participate in leadership development programs in some 30 cities, according to a news release.
Throughout the four-day program, students will build a working "tool kit" of strategies to help
them successfully dream, create and implement plans that will change how they view their role as leadersin their communities, according to the release.
"The steps each person takes in discovering his or her own leadership strengths can be a very
personal process," Marguerite Regan, Ph.D., dean of academic affairs for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the organization that sponsors NYLSC, said in the release.
"The National Young Leaders State Conference will help students get at the heart of their innate talents and skills and will also help them to identify how they can best serve their communities."
Dominic is also involved in the St. John Vianney youth group, FC America Soccer program, plays football for BMS and also fundraises with the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
