Ice cream social Sunday in Geneseo

GENESEO -- An Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday sept. 6 at Galena Middle School, 1230 Franklin St.

There will be home-baked pies, cakes, cookies, frozen yogurt, lemonade and coffee. Live music will be provided by C.C. Rider.

Proceeds will benefit the Galena/Jo Daviess County HIstorical Society.

Ameritech Pionner Retirees volunteer

Ameritech Pioneer Retirees will have a float in the 14th Rock Island Labor Day Parade beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7. This year's theme is ``A Salute to the Old and the New.''

Ameritech volunteers will assist the daylong handicapped teams tourney Saturday Sept. 12 at Town and Country Bowling Alley, Rock Island.

They will also cook funnel cakes Sept. 13 for the boys at Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley.

Genealogy classes are being offered

DAVENPORT -- Genealogy classes are being offered by the German American Heritage Center, Davenport.

Seven-week beginning classes will be held at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 16.

Intermediate classes will be held Tuesdays at 1 and 6:30 p.m. starting Sept. 15.

Advanced classes will be held Mondays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays starting Sept. 21.

Registration deadline is Sept. 9; call 322-8844. Fee is $50 plus the optional manual at $12.50.

Korean War Vets set informational meeting

MOLINE -- An informational meeting of the Korean War Veterans Association will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 9 at the Moline American Legion.

Department of Illinois KWVA officers will be present to answer questions.

Membership and formation of a Quad Cities Chapter will be discussed.

Sunburst pageants set at SouthPark

MOLINE -- The Sunburst Baby and Beauty Pageant will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday sept. 12 at SouthPark Mall, Moline.

An entry form is available at SouthPark, or call Kay Dees, state director, (904) 992-8956.

The Baby pageant is for boys and girls, and the Sunburst USA Pageant is for girls.

Winners and runners-up will quality to compete in the state finals in May in Springfield.
