DAVENPORT -- Presbyterian Church, Davenport, Iowa, is pleased to announce the Performing Arts Series 1998-99, the church's seventh year of hosting the annual series.
The season's first performance will be ``Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue!'' featuring pianist, Paul Bissacia. The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 1.
The series' second performance will be the Christmas Concert, ``Gloria!'' The church's 90-voice Sanctuary Choir accompanied by full orchestra, under the direction of Steven R. Jobman, will headline the performance. Because of overwhelming ticket demand, two concerts have been scheduled. They're slated for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19 and 3 p.m. Dec. 20. Tickets are complimentary, but required.
The hit Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical, ``South Pacific'' presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26-27 and at 4 p.m. Feb. 28.
One of the most sacred days of the church year, Good Friday, will see the presentation of a service of darkness entitled ``Voices from the Passion, The Seven Last Words of Christ,'' presented at 7:30 p.m. April 2.
The season's final performance will feature the Nova Singers at 4 p.m. April 25. Nova Singers season tickets will be honored.
All performances will be held in the recently restored Victorian Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa Street. Patron tickets are $50 and are available now. Series tickets are $25 and are available beginning Sept. 27.
