Easter vandal destroys Sacred Heart statue

The statue of Jesus Christ in front of Sacred Heart Church, on 5th Avenue in Rock Island, lays face down on Monday April 1, 2013 after it was vandalized at 9:21 p.m. Sunday. Rock Island police are currently reviewing security camera footage that shows a lone vandal knocking over the statue and then walking away.

Fire races through Eldridge bar, restaurant

Firefighters pour water onto the building housing Del's Eatery & Pub in Eldridge on Jan. 17, 2013. Firefighters from at least a half-dozen departments including Davenport, Donahue, Long Grove and Bettendorf were among those assisting Eldridge. Three ladder trucks were employed to battle the blaze which took over 4 hours to get under control.

Davenport Ice Rink busts containment

Gary Schafer and Pete Petersen, of the Downtown Davenport Partnership, pack up the ice rink making equipment after the first attempt to install the new attraction in downtown Davenport failed on Friday January 4, 2013. According to Ken Croken, Genesis Heath System VP of Corporate Communication, organizers discovered on Friday that the water used to form the sheet of ice will need to be laid down in layers instead of filling the rink structure all at once. While attempting to fill the structure the water broke containment spilling into the courtyard and running down the hill to River Drive. The rink will be located on 2nd Street in the courtyard in front of Skybridge. Genesis is sponsoring the free rink and will host an Ice-Stravaganza on Jan. 27.

Frozen Turkeys Falling from the Sky
As part of a Thanksgiving eve party put on by Rock 104-9's Dave and Darren show, frozen turkeys were thrown from a helicopter onto squares marked on the field at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport on Wednesday evening, Nov. 26.
