GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) — Prosecutors have accused a woman in connection with the southwestern Illinois hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian.
Twenty-three-year-old Gabrielle Parent of Granite City is charged in Madison with failing to report an accident involving a death. That felony is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
Passing motorists found the body of 50-year-old Shari Watts of East Alton on Saturday along Illinois Route 3 in Granite City.
Investigators believe Watts was in the Brooklyn area the previous night seeking a ride home. Authorities think the hit-and-run accident that killed Watts may have happened several hours before her body was found.
Parent wasn't reachable for comment Tuesday. She has an unlisted home telephone number and online court records don't show whether she has an attorney.
