ATKINSON – The village board on Monday said the new property tax levy is expected to remain at this year's level of$89,500.

"Based on the present economy, we don't want to burden the residents with additional taxes," Mayor August Junior said. "We have been fiscally responsible to the point where there is no need to raise any taxes."

Tax levy figures and the current equalized assessed valuation for the village will be presented at the Dec. 17 meeting.

In other business, the board:

- Approved spending $1,120 for a Taser from Protect Life, Scottsdale, Ariz.Police Chief Adam Burroughs will attend training on how to use the Taser.

- Aldermen also discussed the possibility of video gaming in the village, and said discussion would continue at the Dec. 17 meeting.

"We currently have the tax-increment-financing district that should stimulate development of businesses along the I-80 corridor as well as in the village," Mayor Junior said. "Video gaming might be something future developers would want."
