Learn basic Italian, Chinese at BHC

Do you need an introduction to a foreign language or plan to travel abroad? Get started with the basics in an eight-week evening class at Black Hawk College.

Classes beginning in February are:

Basic Italian Language – 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 14 to April 4

Beginning Chinese (Mandarin) I – 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 21 to April 11

Classes are $105 and will be at the college's Quad-Cities Campus in Moline.

Kids can learn to swim at BHC

The next six-week Saturday session of Swim School for youths begins Saturday and Feb. 20 at Black Hawk College in Moline.

Youths ages 4-15 can learn how swim or improve their skills. Choose from:

Wednesdays – 5:15 to 6 p.m., 6:15 to 7 p.m. or 7:15 to 8 p.m.

Saturdays – 9:15 to 10 a.m., 10:15 to 11 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. to noon

Class will cover human resource issues for small businesses

Small business owners can learn the basic regulations of hiring, when to terminate and methods to motivate and retain good employees at the upcoming Black Hawk College course Human Resources.

The class will be from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Illinois workNet Center in Moline. Cost is $50.

The class will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the BHC Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $18.

'Meteorology in the QC' focus of Feb. 20 program

Meet James Zahara and learn about "Meteorology in the QC" on Feb. 20 at Stoney Creek Inn.

Zahara is chief meteorologist for WQAD News 8 and weekday forecaster on "Good Morning Quad Cities." He will walk participants through his journey in meteorology, share exciting stories from the field and reflect on his 20 years in the Quad-Cities.

Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m., with the program at 12:15 p.m. Cost is $22.

What to help curb your stress?

Sign up for Mindful Meditation Techniques, and in one evening you will learn meditation techniques that may help lower your blood pressure and calm your nerves.
