Press release submitted by Michael Swartz

Mrs. Nana Ouro-Agoro, Interim Program Director of the Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees (QCAIR) today announced the Annual Meeting of the organization, February 23, 2013 at the Martin Luther King Center, Rock Island, beginning at 2:00 pm in the afternoon. "We have our official business that we must take care of, but the fun part will be the ethnic dancing and the culturally diverse food!" said Mrs. Nana Ouro-Agoro.

The meeting will also be a celebration of the first anniversary of QCAIR. "Glimpse of the Philippines" is scheduled to provide dance entertainment, along with a Togo Dance Troupe. The Bhutanese group may also be able to attend. Special foods will be provided by various ethnic groups. There will also be American food catered in for the less adventurous eaters.

QCAIR was officially organized on February 23, 2012 with 29 member organizations representing both Illinois and Iowa. Eight different ethnic community based organizations were included in that original group. Four additional organizations have signed on in the last year.

QCAIR works to build a community among Quad Cities refugees, immigrants and citizens.

To that end QCAIR is gathering community-based organizations and non-profit agencies, churches, school districts, community colleges, governments and other groups who provide services to immigrants and refugees with a Quad City-wide focus. The purpose is to identify gaps and overlaps in services and to assist refugees and immigrants in connecting with those organizations and individuals that can help them settle comfortably within our communities and to become engaged citizens.
