Press release submitted by city of Davenport

Construction for the Water Company Flood Protection Project has reached a critical stage regarding the Riverfront Trail. It is no longer possible to keep the trail open through the construction site due to space limitations. On Monday, November 19 it will be necessary to close the portion of the Riverfront Trail through the Water Company area. This closure is expected to last at least two months.

A detour route has been established for both bicycles and pedestrians. The bikes are detoured to Mound Street, 12th Street, Bridge Avenue and Oneida Avenue. Pedestrians are detoured to Mound Street, River Drive, Mississippi Avenue, 9th Street, Bridge Avenue and Oneida Avenue. There are small detour signs to mark these routes.

Trail users and motorists should be cautious when on the detour routes. The presence of large numbers of bicycles or pedestrians on these routes is not common.

As construction on River Drive continues, there will be modifications in the pedestrian detour. The pedestrian detour signage will be modified to mark any changes in the route.

The flood protection around the Iowa American Water facility in Davenport is being constructed by the Corps of Engineers under an agreement with the City of Davenport.
