A New Boston man faces a possible five-year prison sentence for violating his probation by allegedly driving drunk in Iowa and leaving the scene of a Mercer County accident.

A hearing has been scheduled Thursday in Mercer County Circuit Court to determine if Cory Terrill, 27, should have his probation revoked for various alleged infractions, including consumption of alcohol and driving without insurance.

He also failed to pay the Mercer County Center on Addictions court-ordered restitution, Mercer County State's Attorney Baron Heintz said Monday.

A preliminary court hearing for the new charges is scheduled for Sept. 8. He remained in the Mercer County Jail Monday in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Mr. Terrill pleaded guilty in a negotiated agreement May 4 to Class 3 felony aggravated battery of a pregnant woman. He was accused of pushing and choking the victim.

He also admitted to harming another victim and firing a gun during a fight Jan. 4.

He was sentenced to 30 months' probation for the first count, 24 months' probation for the misdemeanor battery charge and ordered to spend 180 days in Mercer County Jail, with credit for time served.
