Gustav A. Heinrich, 89, of East Moline, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Genesis, Illini Campus in Silvis.

Private funeral services will be held at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 246 of Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post No. 246.

Gustav A. Heinrich was born in Sunbury, Iowa, on Nov. 1, 1923, to Wilhelm and Clara Wendel Heinrich. On Dec. 28, 1968, in Rio, he married Evelyn I. Beckwith. She preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2006.

Gus was a truck driver for 56 years, traveling coast-to-coast in the United States, and into Canada, and for a time, he played baseball for the Boston Red Sox farm team. He was a member of Moline American Legion Post 246 for 72 years. Gus enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and stock-car racing.

Survivors include daughter, Sheila (Robert) Geiger, Orion; son, Michael (Cheryl) Heinrich, Camdenton, Mo.; sisters, Arlene Darnell, Durant, and Dorothy (Robert) Garrison, Davenport; brother, Richard (Lois) Heinrich, Oregon; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives; four brothers; and one grandson.
