Joseph Cecil Mosher, 95, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Bickford Cottage, Davenport.
A celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo and conclude with a rosary and prayer service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Abilities Plus or Geneseo GIFT Foundation to support local charities.
Joseph was born July 12, 1917, in rural Prophetstown, the son of John Henry and Mary Alice "Mae" Curran Mosher. He was united in marriage to Norma Evelyn Pitchford on July 25, 1953, in Sterling.
Joe farmed in the Prophetstown and Geneseo areas. For several years, he owned and operated Mosher and Buysse IH dealership in Prophetstown and was a seed corn dealer. In 1969, Joe had the World Champion Shorthorn herd at the Chicago Stockyards Livestock World Expo. He loved farming and participated in many parades with his Belgian and Percheron draft horses. Joe was a Cubs baseball fan, a member of Henry County Farm Bureau and St. Malachy's Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Dawn (David) Tubbs, Atkinson, Jane Dickison, Coupeville, Wash., Cynthia (Carl) Krafft, Chesterton, Ind., Rita Mosher, Island Lake, Ill.; one son, Paul (Teri) Mosher, Geneseo; eight grandchildren, Erin Knackstedt, Villa Park, Ill., Kate Blank, Monona, Wis., Craig Mosher, Davenport, Kristin Mosher, Okinawa, Japan, Stephanie Mosher, Busan, South Korea, Kira Dickison, Coupeville, Nicole Reppas, Coupeville, Kari Krafft, Indianapolis, Ind.; and one great-grandson, Kellan Knackstedt.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma in April 2006; one brother, J. Raynor Mosher; one sister, Frances Castelein; and son-in-law, Dick Dickison.
