Moline product Brittny Drish got her college softball career off to a red-hot start as thefreshman shortstop is hitting over .300 as a starting-lineup fixture at Illinois State.
The Redbirds capped a 3-3 weekend Sunday at Florida's NFCA Lead Off Classic with a 7-0 win over No. 14 South Florida.
Drish also was among three Redbirds named to the all-tournament team earlier this month at Baylor's season-starting Getterman Classic.
Last year's Metro Softball Player of the Year for The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, Drish went 7-for-10 at the event, with two RBIs, two runs and a double.
The Redbirds, which have fellow Moline freshman Kaitlyn Knary coming off the bench, are 8-8 so far having faced six nationally-rated teams and played three other games against Big Ten Conference schools.
Next up for ISU is this coming weekend's Disney Citrus Classic.
