CAN I BURN MY LEAVES TODAY
Regulations on burning lawn waste remains a hot issue in the Quad-Cities. Here is a rundown of regulations and phone numbers to call with questions about burn laws and lawn-waste collection:
Aledo -- Burning is allowed on owner's own property on any day; call 582-7241.
Bettendorf -- No leaf burning. Yard waste must be placed in special paper bags with appropriate stickers, which can be purchased at city hall and various retail stores; call 344-4148. On Saturdays from the end of October through December, Bettendorf residents may take leaves to a location beneath the Interstate 74 bridge, where workers will collect them for free, or residents may take leaves to the compost facility; call 344-4088.
Coal Valley -- Yard waste only may be burned from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day; call 799-3604.
Colona -- Heartland Garbage Co. collects yard waste on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Call the city for your specific yard-waste collection day. Residents need to buy yard-waste stickers, which cost $1.25 apiece, and yard-waste bags, which are available at various retail stores. Branches may be put into bundles not exceeding 50 pounds, not longer than four feet. Yard waste can be burned on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; call 792-8628 or 949-3140 (Geneseo Telephone).
Davenport -- Burning of leaves and vegetation is allowed from sunrise to sunset on burn days; call 326-7904.
East Moline -- Leaves may be burned from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on non-windy Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays; call the fire department at 752-1504 for burn information. Yard waste must be placed in yard-waste paper bags with stickers. Yard waste is collected on Wednesdays from April through November; call 752-1573 for further regulations.
Geneseo -- Leaves may be burned from sunrise to sunset; call 944-6419.
Milan -- Leaves may be burned on non-windy days; call 787-8500.
Moline -- Burning is allowed during daylight hours on burn days determined by the fire department; call 757-1000, category 5323, for complete information on burning regulations. Yard waste is collected on residents' regular trash pick-up day. Yard waste must be placed in special bags with appropriate stickers, which can be purchased at various retail stores. Limbs and brush must be tied in bundles not exceeding 4 feet long and not more than one foot in diameter; call 797-0780.
Orion -- No burn laws; call 526-8139.
Rock Island -- Burning of leaves, dry grass and twigs is permitted during daylight hours until sunset on burn days; call the fire department at 732-2876. Yard waste must be placed in special yard-waste bags, which can be purchased at city hall and various retail stores. Bags must not exceed 50 pounds. Brush and limbs must be bundled, not exceeding 50 pounds, not longer than 4 1/2 feet, and not more than 24 inches in diameter; call 732-2200.
Sherrard -- No burn laws; call 593-2415.
Silvis -- Leaves, brush and garden waste may be burned between 8 a.m. and dusk Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Fires must be attended, with water available nearby. Yard-waste collection day is Monday. Waste must be in paper bags with a sticker attached; stickers and bags may be purchased at Hy-Vee, Anchor Do-It Center, or Jewel. Bags must not exceed 40 pounds and must be on the curbside by 7 a.m.; call 792-9181.
