Danish Butter Cookies

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pecans
Maraschino cherries, green and red

Cream sugar, butter and shortening; add egg and flavorings. Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt; add to butter mixture. Chill for 2 hours.
Shape into small balls and place on a greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with a fork and decorate with half a pecan or half a red or green maraschino cherry.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees until edges are slightly brown and there is a slight brown color to center.
