Marinated Olives

These stuffed olives fortified with vinegar and herbs give an everyday treat a party flavor. The recipe can easily be doubled for larger crowds.

Ingredients

1 jar (8 ounces) pimiento-stuffed green olives, drained
1/4 cup tarragon wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon dried chives
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon whole black peppercorns

Instructions

Place olives in a glass container with a lid. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over olives. Secure lid on jar and shake to coat olives well. Marinate at room temperature two days, shaking jar daily. Drain before serving. Makes about one cup of olives.

1964 — 50 years ago: Gerald Hickman, of Seattle, Wash, will move his family to Rock Island to assume the position of produce buyer for the Eagle Food Center chain of food stores. This announcement was made today by Bernard Weindruch, president of Eagles.

1989 — 25 years ago: Care & Share, formed in 1984 to provide food to jobless and needy Quad-Citians, will disband because the major part of a crisis created by plant closings is over. Food for the needy is still necessary. So groups separately will continue to raise money and collect food.
