Great-Grandma Kincaid's Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

2 cups sugar
1 cup lard (do not use shortening)
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 cups flour

Cream together sugar and lard, then add eggs. Mix together sour cream and baking soda. Blend into creamed mixture, adding vanilla and flour and mixing until smooth. Chill. Roll dough to 1/8-inch thick. Cut cookies using cookie cutters. Bake in 375-degree oven 8 to 10 minutes. For grandchildren, soften raisins by soaking in warm water for a few minutes. Then use to create a happy face on cookies before baking.
