Black Walnut Candy

Ingredients

4-1/2 cups sugar
1-3/4 cups milk
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup black walnut pieces

Instructions

Butter an 11x7-inch pan. Set aside. Place milk and sugar in a 2-quart sauce pan. Bring to a boil and cook to a softball stage, 238 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat. Stir in butter until melted. Stir in walnuts. Place saucepan into a pan or sink of cold water. Let sit a few minutes. Stir until mixture starts to thicken. Pour into prepared pan. When set, cut into squares.
