Momica's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or Crisco
2-1/3 cups margarine
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup walnuts or pecans, optional
12 ounces chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
With an electric mixer or food processor, combine Crisco, margarine, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix well.
Add remaining ingredients, mix well.
Using a teaspoon, drop dough on cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool.
