Pumpkin Bars

Ingredients

1 cup cooking oil
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 can (2 cups) pumpkin
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups flour
1 cup nuts
FROSTING:
1 package (3 ounces) cream cheese
6 tablespoons margarine
1 teaspoon cream or milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dash of salt
Powdered sugar

Instructions

Beat oil, sugar and eggs until creamy. Then add pumpkin, cinnamon, salt, soda, baking powder, flour and nuts. Bake 20-25 minutes in an oven preheated to 350 F. degrees. Mix together all frosting ingredients. Frost bars when cool.

1939 -- 75 years ago: The German army has invaded Poland in undeclared warfare. Poland has appealed to Great Britain and France for aid.
1964 -- 50 years ago: Publication of a plant newspaper, the Farmall Works News, has been launched at the Rock Island IHC factory and replaces a managerial newsletter.
1989 -- 25 years ago: Officials predict Monday's Rock Island Labor Parade will be the biggest and best ever. Last minute work continues on floats and costumes for the parade, which steps off a 9:30 a.m.
