Fruit Fritter Batter

1-1/3 cups sifted flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking powder
2/3 cup milk

Sift dry ingredients. Add well-beaten egg and milk. The batter should be thick enough to coat the food it is intended for. If too thin, add flour. If too thick, add milk.
Makes 1-1/2 cups.
For apple fritters, pare, core and slice some tart apples, dip in fritter batter, covering each slice with batter. Fry in deep, hot oil (365 degrees) 2 to 3 minutes. Drain. Serve with confectioner's sugar.
Also can be used with bananas, peaches and raspberries.
