Apple Pie in a Jar

Ingredients

4-1/2 cups sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
10 cups water
3 tablespoons lemon juice
Apples (to fill jars)

Instructions

In a large kettle combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and water. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly. Add lemon juice. Fill 8-10 quart jars with raw cut up apples. Cover with thick, bubbly mixture. Boil approximately 20 minutes to seal jars. When ready to use, add one quart to an 8- to 9-inch pie crust. Cover with top crust and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes until apples are tender.
