Anise Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1-1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon anise extract
1-1/2 teaspoons anise seed
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and extract, and mix well. Combine dry ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. Gradually add dry ingredient mixture to creamed mixture. Shape dough into one-inch balls. Place on greased cookie sheet. Gently flatten with sugared glass. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes. Yields: 7-9 dozen.
