Cowboy Coffee Cake

2 cups flour
1-1/2 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup shortening
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup sour milk
2 eggs, well beaten
Nuts or chocolate chips, optional
Cinnamon and sugar, optional


Mix flour, brown sugar, shortening, baking powder, soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add milk and eggs and mix well. Pour batter into a 9x13-inch pan. Chopped nuts, chocolate chips and cinnamon and sugar may be sprinkled over crumbs, if desired. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
