The Lincoln Trail Conference's boys' basketball players will take center stage for their annual midseason hoops gathering beginning today.
Mercer County High School in Aledo will host for this year's LTC Tournament, serving as the site of the winners' and losers' bracket semifinals on Friday, followed a night later by the consolation finals, the third-place game and the 8 p.m. championship game.
Action gets underway today with a trio of first-round games at various sites, with the winners moving to Tuesday's quarterfinals. At 1 p.m., the eighth-seeded Annawan Braves (7-14) welcome No. 9 Princeville (4-13); No. 6 ROWVA (7-13) entertains No. 11 United (1-16) in a 4 p.m. opening-rounder; and No. 7 Biggsville West Central (8-9) hosts No. 10 Sciota West Prairie (6-11).
Annawan's game today is a rematch of its regular-season conference opener, in which the Braves handled the Princes 50-39. With a victory, Coach Brandon Christy's club would get a Tuesday matchup in Kewanee against rival and top seed Wethersfield (17-3).
ROWVA and United are meeting for the second time in less than five days, with the Tigers holding off the Red Storm 40-36 this past Tuesday. The winner draws No. 3 Stark County (8-11) at Toulon, with No. 2 seed and reigning tourney champion Galva (15-3) hosting the West Prairie-West Central winner.
Fourth-seeded Mercer County (11-8) and fifth-seeded Ridgewood (10-9) will open against each other Tuesday night at 7 in Aledo.
